A large-scale immersive art exhibition titled Exploring the Classic Chinese Book Shan Hai Jing, which was inspired by the ancient literature Shan Hai Jing, or The Classic of Mountains and Seas, opened in the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District on June 28 and will run until the end of October.
The aim of the exhibition is to help people better understand the classic work and promote the innovative development of traditional Chinese cultures.
A major source of Chinese mythology that dates back more than 2,000 years ago, Shan Hai Jing contains a wealth of information on history, mythology, religion, astronomy, geography, folklore, ethnicities, natural resources and medicine.

Through 10 themed spaces, the exhibition combines ancient mythical animal art with contemporary aesthetic expressions. Using immersive cinema techniques, it presents the sounds from distant eras and showcases the fantastical charm in a more vivid and intuitive way.
The exhibition strives to offer an immersive audiovisual feast that integrates science popularization, art education and traditional culture.
"Shan Hai Jing, as a cultural treasure of Chinese excellence, boasts influence, imagery, stories, symbols, interactivity and extension. It possesses the characteristics of becoming a super cultural intellectual property," said Hong Qinghua, founder of online travel agency Lvmama and chairman of Jingyu Group. He hoped that this exhibition will serve as a starting point for exploring and telling the stories of China, with the collaboration of the government, market participants, educators, scholars and international friends.
