China's first domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Magic City, completed its undocking process in Shanghai on June 6.
Built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the vessel has 25 million components and is one of the most complex single-unit electromechanical ships in the world.
The construction of Adora Magic City was aided by an intelligent operation system designed by Miebach Tech, which specializes in smart solutions in fields like logistics and supply chains. The company is based in the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District.
Adora Magic City began construction in 2019 and is expected to be delivered and put into operation by the end of this year. The 24-story, 1.35 million-tonnage cruise ship has 2,826 cabins that can accommodate 5,246 passengers. It is equipped with facilities such as a medical center, a theater, a gym and a basketball court. The ship can also support 5G access.

Intelligent system
According to Yin Huixin, deputy general manager of Miebach Tech, the intelligent operation system is powered by the internet of things, digital twinning and spatial computing and can provide digitization and visualization of the entire construction process.
The system also allows shipbuilders to control a heavy-duty stacker crane that can automatically access and store large materials, thus improving the utilization of warehouse space as well as the efficiency of distribution and assembly, he added.
The company has also developed a digital system that accurately tracks and locates each component using spatial computing technology. Management personnel can use smartphones or tablet computers to view real-time data such as inventory status, stock turnover rate and site utilization rate.
A bond with Hongqiao
Miebach Tech's research and development center was put into use in June in the Hongqiao CBD.
"The local authority has responded positively to the needs of the company in terms of site selection, tax affairs and talent cultivation," said Yin.
"As an economic hub of Shanghai, Hongqiao CBD offers an efficient and vibrant business environment. Government approval and management services are intelligent, precise, collaborative and efficient, and facilitate the high-quality development of enterprises."
