Eco-friendly and smart home appliances will become a highlight at the sixth China International Import Expo, which will take place from Nov 5 to 10 in Shanghai, said the expo organizer on Feb 21.

Liu Fuxue, the deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau, said during a promotional event that this year's expo will feature a section dedicated to interesting technologies that make homes more sustainable.

The event was attended by enterprises from the eco-friendly, smart home appliances committee of the exhibitors' alliance of CIIE and buyers in the sector.

"The committee has contributed to the green and intelligent development of the home appliance industry, and has played a leading role in improving the sustainability of the CIIE," Liu said.

Established in April 2021 to facilitate production and consumption upgrades in the home appliance industry, the committee consists of international leading brands including Germany-based Bosch Siemens Household Goods (BSH) and Japanese electronics giant Panasonic.

With BSH being the committee's first chairman, Panasonic, which has participated in the expo for four straight years, was elected as this year's chairman, while Swedish home furnishing company IKEA and German water technology group BWT became the vice chairmen.

"The CIIE is an important arena to turn exhibits into commodities," said Zhao Bingdi, president of Panasonic China.

The company is planning to bring new products and ideas to this year's expo and have an exhibition area of over 1,000 square meters, Zhao said.

"We'll deepen exchanges and share insights with more firms in the industry," he added.

Ruan Linjuan, vice-president of IKEA China, said the company will continue its efforts to create a sustainable home for the public.

Xu Meizhen, deputy general manager of BWT China, said BWT and its global partners have witnessed the great evolution of CIIE for the past a few years, and the expo has become an important platform for launching new products.

"We look forward to sharing advanced equipment, technology, and concepts and increasing exchanges at the CIIE," Xu said.
