The Shanghai International Sister Cities Hub was recently launched at the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trading Center – located in the Hongqiao International Central Business District in East China's Shanghai city.
The hub is an innovative platform jointly developed by the foreign affairs office of Shanghai municipal government and company Orient International (Holding) Co Ltd.
The aim is to integrate the considerable resources of Shanghai and its international sister cities, as well as the resources of the China International Import Export, or CIIE, which is held in the Chinese metropolis every year.
According to officials, the hub will provide a "6+365" model – where a city or an enterprise can exhibit at the CIIE for six days and then sell its products all year round.
It will provide comprehensive exhibition and sales services for Shanghai's international sister cities and their enterprises operating in Shanghai.
With the hub, the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trading Center will become a bigger channel for domestic and international exchanges and commodity trading.
Moving forwards, the center will stage exhibitions and undertake commodity sales activities for Shanghai's 92 international sister cities.
