The Shandong Sub-council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Sri Lanka Embassy in China held an online meeting on May 12 to discuss the trading of medical supplies and daily necessities needed for epidemic prevention and control efforts.

More than 40 Shandong companies engaged in the production and export of products such as masks, protective suits, medical gloves, sanitation products and goggles attended the meeting.

Liu Xiaojiang, vice president of the Shandong Sub-council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said that his council is ready to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Sri Lanka and promote trade and investment in epidemic prevention materials.

Liu also expressed hope that this online meeting will further strengthen bilateral relations and lay the foundation for more trade and investment cooperation after the pandemic.

Alexi Gunasekara, minister of the Sri Lanka Embassy in China, introduced Sri Lanka's investment policy and business environment during the meeting. He said that Sri Lanka, as a supporter of the Belt and Road Initiative, hopes to establish a sound and sustained investment cooperation with Shandong province in many aspects.

Sampath Perera, the second secretary of the Sri Lanka Embassy in China, later introduced Sri Lanka's expertise in ports and how it can help with China's maritime transportation and oil security.
