According to the Constitution of South and Southeast Asian University Network, University of Engineering and Technology (Pakistan) has been accepted as the member of South and Southeast Asian University Network.
Introduction
Established in 1921, the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) located in the northern part of Lahore, is the oldest and highly prestigious public sector engineering university in Pakistan. UET has played a vital role in technical education and innovation by leading the International Institute of Online Education for the year 2021. UET Lahore is a flag bearer in quality engineering education with the largest number of OBE accredited programs in the country.
Faculty development projects, four campuses, technical training initiatives, 19 functional research centres, volunteer work done by students' societies, plantation drives, and seminars unequivocally reflect the unwavering determination of UET towards achieving sustainable development goals effectually.
According to the 2022 QS ranking data, UET jumped to 324th place in QS rankings. UET improved its subject-wise ranking considerably compared to 2021: Petroleum Engineering 51-100; Electrical & Electronic Engineering 251-300, compared to 351-400 last year; Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering 301-350; Chemical Engineering 351-400; and Computer Science & Information Systems 351-400, compared to 401-450 last year. Accordingly, UET ranks first in the country in Petroleum Engineering; second in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering; and third in Electrical Engineering. UET also has an Institute of Business and Management which is a hub of entrepreneurial education. At the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Modern Languages, over 7000 students have been taught Chinese language HSK-1 to the undergraduate engineering students at UET, Lahore. UET is home to various centres, such as Laser and Optronics Centre and Alkhwarzimi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), which are hubs of scientific creativity and innovation. KICS, UET, Lahore, for example, in collaboration with Pakistan Railways, has achieved a major milestone by introducing the “Digital Railway Driving System” in 2023. Due to their research output, basic sciences departments, such as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, have a huge share in the improvement of QS ranking of the university. UET has numerous national and international collaborations and joint research projects to its credit.
