Founded in 1996, Jiangsu Shemar Electric Co Ltd is a national high-tech enterprise. Shemar keeps focusing on the pain points in the power industry and carrying out technological innovations.
Through the application of new material technologies, Shemar has developed seven categories of technologies and products which have filled in the blanks in electric power equipment problems in the international market. Its products made with new composite materials and solutions have superior performance and are maintenance-free during their life cycle.
Based on the nation's power grid construction, operation and maintenance cost structure model and demand for products, Shemar's products have saved its customers more than 47.5 billion yuan ($6.84 billion).
In 2012 and 2017, it won the grand prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

Shemar has targeted an oil leakage problem in electrical equipment since 1996. Its innovative rubber seals successfully solved the industrial difficulties in oil leakage and spill problems in power transmission and transformation equipment, and they can prevent oil leakage throughout the equipment's life cycle of 30 years.
By 2018, its rubber seals had saved over 20 billion yuan in wastage and maintenance costs.

In 2013, Shemar developed a world-leading innovative solution for anti-flashover, which is able to effectively solve pollution, rain and ice flashover problems in porcelain external insulation and meet both operation and life cycle demands. It has been promoted and applied in power grids worldwide.
Line composite insulator
In 2008, Shemar developed leading line composite insulators, which satisfy the life cycle demand of 30 years and solve problems with traditional porcelain and glass insulators. It also has cost advantages.
At present, the company's line composite insulators have gained high market share in China's key ultra-high-voltage (UHV) AC and DC projects. Shemar products account for over 60 percent of such products in the ±400kV Qinghai-Tibet project in the world's worst weather environment.
By 2018, it had saved more than 1.5 billion yuan in construction, operation and maintenance costs for global power grid companies.
Substation composite insulator
In 1998, Shemar developed substation composite insulators filling a blank in the international market. These insulators solve explosions, pollution flashovers and fracture problems in traditional porcelain insulators, and the products are maintenance-free and offer great advantages in general cost. By 2018, over 600,000 Shemar substation composite insulators had been applied and saved more than 26 billion yuan in construction, operation and maintenance costs for global grids.
