The start of construction in February of a raft of major industrial projects in the Lin-gang Special Area, located in East China's Shanghai city, was celebrated on Feb 19.

The ceremony marked the groundbreaking of 14 major projects with a total investment of over 18.74 billion yuan ($2.96 billion). These cover new energy vehicles, biomedicines, civil aviation and other cutting-edge industries – as well as housing, municipal transport, the environment and other fields.

One of the companies involved was Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd, China's leading automotive lithium-ion battery maker, which began construction of two new projects on the day.

Projects related to batteries and smart technology will feature workshops, raw materials and finished goods warehouses, as well as research and development buildings.

CATL aims to build green, efficient and smart factories in Lin-gang and also wants to upgrade key technologies there.
