Children's rehabilitation center established in Lin-gang
The Lin-gang branch of the Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital was officially launched on Feb 7 -- filling a vacuum for pediatric rehabilitation in the Lin-gang Special Area of Shanghai city in East China.
With the opening of the center, families in rural Lin-gang Special Area with children requiring regular and long-term rehabilitation training no longer need to travel all the way to Shanghai's downtown hospitals.
The new facility is long overdue. Not so long ago, for example, screening revealed that a baby from Lin-gang had a form of growth retardation, a condition which could be improved through regular rehabilitation and training.
However, that course of treatment was only available in downtown pediatric hospitals and comprehensive hospitals, so the family began a seven-month-long 160-kilometer daily trip between their home in Lin-gang to a leading pediatric hospital in Minhang district.
Not unnaturally, that arduous journey wore down both the infant and the family, undermining the positive effects of rehabilitation.
Some families in Lin-gang have done such trips for over two years.
The pediatrics department of the Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital, Lin-gang branch has now established a children's rehabilitation clinic -- the first such clinic in a comprehensive hospital in Pudong's southeast, bringing hope and convenience to local families.
It offers evaluations and rehabilitation covering motor nerve development and disease diagnosis -- as well as treatment to help the entire growth cycle of children, targeting growth and development, language, intelligence, ADSD, autism, sleep and other health conditions.
