The launch ceremony for the new-look Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital was held in Lin-gang Special Area of the city in East China on Feb 3, following a merger with another local hospital and a consolidation of resources and management.

Hospital officials said the event marked the merger of the East Hospital of Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital, which has been operating in the Lin-gang Special Area for eight years, with the Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital with a history of 117 years.

They said the combination was where a new journey of high-quality integrated development of the hospitals was beginning.

Officials said the Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital is taking the creation of a world-class medical center as its development goal and realizing reform goals.

The hospital's east facility in the Lin-gang Special Area has now been renamed as the hospital's Lin-gang branch. It will partner with the hospital's Xuhui branch to focus on gynecology and pediatrics, emergency medicine, urological repairs and reconstruction, hematology, sleep medicine, elbow joint function reconstruction and sports medicine.

It will also partner with biological and pharmaceutical companies in Lin-gang to build a high-quality medical translation platform, said Yin Shankai, president of the hospital.

The Xuhui branch will enhance its capabilities relating to orthopedics and endocrinology, infectious disease prevention and control, critical pregnancy diagnosis and treatment, strokes and brain injuries, urgent cerebrovascular hemorrhages, artificial intelligence imaging, chest pain and urgent respiratory disease treatment.
