The Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone unveiled a plan to develop cutting-edge industries during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) at a conference on Dec 18, 2020.

Under the plan, Lin-gang will strive to develop its innovation-driven artificial intelligence (AI) industry, attract global innovative resources, boost innovation of essential AI technologies, foster new growth for the AI industry, set a new benchmark for the integration of AI and real economy, and support the development of Shanghai’s AI industry.

Lin-gang will also focus on the research and development of key technologies, speed up the industrial application of AI plus, accelerate the construction of an open-source AI platform and further develop industrial clusters. The industrial value of core AI industries and other related industries is expected to reach 90 billion yuan ($13.74 billion) in 2025.

In addition, nine key AI projects were signed at the conference. The projects, worth over 10 billion yuan in total, focus on core chip design, smart terminal applications, algorithms and innovative platforms.

The projects will help boost the development of Lin-gang's AI industry cluster, deepen the integration of the area's cutting-edge industries, AI and digital economy, and upgrade the industry level.
