Yangshan port celebrates 15th anniversary

The Shanghai Yangshan Deep Water Port celebrated its 15th anniversary on Dec 10, 2020. It has become one of the strongest ports in the world since it first opened in 2005.

The port's throughput is expected to exceed 20 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) this year, which is 6.19 times more than in 2005.

The fourth phase of the Yangshan Deep Water Port – the world's largest unmanned container terminal – also celebrated its third anniversary on Dec 10, 2020.

According to the Maritime Safety Administration of the Yangshan Deep Water Port, in the first 11 months of this year, 1,838 container ships on international routes passed through the fourth phase of the Yangshan Deep Water Port, up 28.9 percent year on year, while 4,834 container ships on internal branch routes passed through it, up 7.8 percent year on year. Container throughput reached 3.768 billion twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 21.39 percent year on year, and is expected to exceed 4 million TEUs for the entire year.
