Prepared food is quickly growing in popularity and emerging as a key sector that the Xinghua Economic Development Zone – located in Xinghua city, East China's Jiangsu province – is striving to develop.
Recently, director of Changpai Food (Jiangsu) Co Ltd Shen Chunhua has been busy meeting clients, helping to scale up the local industry, and conducting research and development for prepared food products.
Meanwhile, Xinghua Daze Aquatic Products Co Ltd is providing prepared snacks while giving business to the producers of the materials that go into them. In terms of its "steamed fish head with diced hot red peppers" product, the seasoning sauce is made by other companies in the zone. Xinghua Daze also uses 50,000 kilograms of silver carp every single day, one-third of which is sourced from and cultivated in the EDZ.

In recent years, Jiangsu Qingshuiyuan Food Technology Co Ltd, has innovated its preservation technology to allow fish ball products to enter supermarkets such as tech giant Alibaba's Freshippo, as well as the canteens of institutes of higher learning like Tsinghua University.
"In the future, the prepared food sector will definitely be segmented, and enterprises with professional expertise in specific production will prosper," said company director Hou Qiuyun.
Moving forwards, Xinghua will promote the construction of a demonstration park for the prepared food sector and a municipal agricultural product e-commerce logistics industrial park. It will also support prepared food companies to use cold chain logistics centers in order to expand their warehousing and distribution channels.
