A set of exquisite Huzhou writing brushes, highlighting China's rich cultural heritage, was presented as a national gift at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit, held from Oct 31 to Nov 1 in Gyeongju, South Korea.

This gift not only showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of traditional Chinese arts but also reflects the deep cultural heritage and precious crafting traditions of Huzhou in Zhejiang province.

Made from precious Xiuyan jade, the brushes feature tips crafted from fine goat underbelly hair, offering exceptional softness and elasticity. The intricately carved handles, masterpieces of micro-engraving, seamlessly blend practicality with artistry.

"Each brush is a vessel of culture. We hope it conveys the warmth and strength of Chinese traditional craftsmanship to the world," said Zhang Xiaofeng, a master Huzhou writing brush maker, expressing excitement over the selection of his handicrafts as a national gift.

The craft of making Huzhou writing brushes was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item in 2006.

Huzhou, recognized as a "Culture City of East Asia", has been promoting cultural exchange through its thriving writing brush industry.

Huzhou's Shanlian town alone hosts over 400 related businesses, employing more than 1,600 people and producing 20 million brushes annually, with annual sales exceeding 900 million yuan ($126.43 million). The town has also embraced digital innovation, boosting online sales of Huzhou writing brushes.
