A new synthetic biology mass production platform being operated by Hechen Bioworkx Co Ltd, a company based in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone, started operating on Aug 22.

The zone is located in Hefei city, capital of East China's Anhui province and a launch ceremony was held in the zone on the day.

Hechen Bioworkx supplies products to various industries, including the cosmetics, food and beverage, healthcare and animal and plant protection sectors.

The group has already established commercial relationships with leading domestic and international groups including BASF, DuPont and Shanghai Lily & Beauty Cosmetics Co Ltd.

The production platform is said to utilize a digital and modular design concept, enabling the efficient manufacture of various types of active raw materials and bio-based materials.

The company completed the construction and operations debugging of the production platform within just six months, marking what it said was a breakthrough in the commercialization of synthetic biology.

On Aug 22, the company also signed up to work with the Tianjin University of Science & Technology, launching a new practice base.
