China's latest quantum computer – called Wukong – is about to come out, while the country's first quantum chip production line is said to be running at full capacity.

In the quantum laboratory of Origin Quantum, based in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone – located in Hefei city in East China's Anhui province – the first domestic quantum chip production line has been ultra-busy in recent days.

"A more powerful quantum computer, named Wukong after the legendary Monkey King from the 16th century novel Journey to the West, will be available soon," said Guo Guoping, founder and chief scientist of Origin Quantum.

Guo added that the technology would produce visible benefits to the daily lives of people within three to five years.

General manager Zhang Hui said there were, however, hurdles to overcome.

"The advancement of quantum computing engineering and commercialization requires that each step be taken extremely carefully," Zhang said.

"We have successfully delivered a quantum computer, but there are still many technical difficulties to overcome in realizing higher bit quantum computers."

Zhang said that the group started cooperation with industry partners last year, including those in mobile communications and finance.

The company would like to continue to overcome the various technical difficulties of practical quantum computing and promote the application of algorithms, he added.
