The GDP of Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone hit 125.27 billion yuan ($19.69 billion) in 2021, up 11.2 percent from that in 2020, according to the zone's official data.

The zone's imports and exports in 2021 set a record high, soaring by 58 percent from 2020 figures to a whopping $7.23 billion.

In 2021, the zone attracted 271 investment projects valued at 71.3 billion yuan in total.

The output value of the biomedical industry in the zone increased by 124.8 percent from that in 2020. The output value of other emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, cyber security and photovoltaic new energy in the zone maintained a steady growth rate of more than 20 percent.

In Anhui province, Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone is home to the most innovative high-tech businesses. There is now nearly 2,000 national high-tech enterprises, accounting for 40 percent of Hefei city's total. Last year, four companies in the zone were listed on the stock exchange, bringing the total number of listed companies in the zone to 33, and accounted for half of the total in the city.
