Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone, which is also known as the Quantum Center, is striving to become a quantum hub with global influence.

Lyu Changfu, deputy director of the management committee of the zone, unveiled the goal at the forum on future industry innovation and development on the opening day of the 2021 Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing on Sept 24.

The Quantum Center in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, is now home to 587 top quantum technical talents, as well as 41 quantum enterprises, which account for about one third of the country's total. It has also produced 12 percent of the country's total quantum-related patents, according to Lyu.

Lyu said that to realize the goal, the Quantum Center plans to gather more than one third of the country's quantum enterprises and personnel, create more than half of the major original results in the quantum field, and generate over 100 billion yuan ($15.48 billion) in revenue in the quantum industry within 10 years.

Lyu also shared the Quantum Center's experiences for quantum industry development in his report on the incubation, exploration, and practice of the quantum information industry at the forum.

He said that the quantum industry, as an important future industry, is full of uncertainty and should be given more support, noting that the Quantum Center has established a complete financial system to bolster the development of the local quantum industry.

A total of four national high-tech zones, including Zhongguancun and the Quantum Center, were invited to share their insights into future industries at the forum. The forum will also help facilitate cooperation between the national zones with overseas counterparts.
