A joint medical device testing lab focusing on testing technology for high-end medical equipment will be built in the biomedicine park in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province.
The Hefei Institute of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Institute of Medical Device Testing recently signed an agreement to build the lab.
The lab will carry out R&D on and promote the application of proton therapy equipment, which is still relatively rare in China. Based on the two sides' previous cooperation on system testing, such equipment has already entered the clinical trial stage.
The equipment received approval for installation in July. The Hefei Ion Medical Center is the first in Anhui to be granted permission to install such equipment.
The two institutes will also collaborate in areas like MRI and CT scans through the lab.
