A Chinese research institute based in Hefei launched a high-performance 77GHz millimeter-wave chip and module on Feb 17.
With a detection distance of 38.5 meters, the product set a world record for the longest detection distance of a millimeter-wave packaged antenna, according to the institute.
For the first time, two 3-transmitter, 4-receiver millimeter-wave chips and 10-way millimeter-wave antennas were integrated in a single package.
The Hefei–based 38th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC38) made the product launch at the 68th International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC 2021). The conference has seen the debut of many landmark inventions in the field of integrated circuits (IC) and is known as the "Olympics" of the field.
According to CETC38, the research team used multi-feed antenna technology to increase the effective radiation distance of the package antenna, providing a small size and low-cost solution for proximity smart sensing.
The institute said that it will further optimize the millimeter-wave radar chip and adjust it to specific application requirements.
