The Yangtze River Delta (YRD) Advanced Computing Alliance was established during the YRD Advanced Computing Summit Forum in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, on Sept 25.

The alliance is expected to improve comprehensive and advanced computing services and encourage the sharing of advanced computing resources throughout the YRD region. It is part of Anhui's efforts to promote the integrated development of the YRD.

The alliance consists of the Hefei Advanced Computing Center, Shanghai Supercomputer Center, Suzhou Supercomputer Center, and Kunshan Supercomputer Center, which will cooperate in providing academic and research communities throughout the region with comprehensive high-performance computing resources and advanced computing solutions.

Advanced computing consists of computing, storage, network, and control technologies and has been integrating with big data, internet of things, and artificial intelligence technology in recent years. It is regarded as a new driving force for scientific progress as well as economic and social development.

Wei Yuqi, deputy director of the Shanghai Supercomputer Center, said that the alliance will inject new vitality into the digital, networking, and intelligent transformation of industries in the YRD and contribute to the R&D of key technologies.

During the forum, the Hefei Advanced Computing Center signed cooperation agreements with the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei and the Hefei Institute of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, promising to provide them with higher-quality technical support.

The Hefei Advanced Computing Center is a major new part of Anhui's information infrastructure for basic scientific research and innovation in emerging industries. It serves as a public service platform for the computing needs of R&D related to cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence. It is currently under construction in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone.
