Tao Yuequn, who returned to China in 2001 after studying abroad, is the chairman of Hefei-based optometry tech firm Ovctek China Inc.

He received a doctorate in engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1994, after which he carried out scientific research at the university while also teaching at California State University.

Ovctek is the first listed optometry tech firm in China, and is devoted to the R&D, production, and sale of optometry products and ophthalmic medical services. It has the world's largest R&D and production center for orthokeratology lenses and a number of medical optometry institutions.

As of Sept 30, 2019, Ovctek had a market value of more than 20 billion yuan ($2.83 billion), net assets of more than 1.3 billion yuan, and around 1,000 employees. It recorded 485 million yuan in revenue and 223 million yuan in net profits in the first three quarters of 2019.
