Hefei innovators win National Innovation Prize

Yu Shuhong, a material scientist and professor at the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, and Hu Yu, CEO of Hefei-based tech firm iFlytek, were awarded the National Innovation Prize on May 30.
The award, second only to the Highest Science and Technology Awards, mainly recognizes outstanding scientific and technology professionals, as well as teams who have made great contributions to scientific research, technological development, and entrepreneurship.
During the COVID-19 epidemic, Yu's team established Anhui Zhongke Micro-Nano New Material Company in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone to develop a nano-material coating which can greatly reduce the cost of masks and protective suits.
iFlytek, a leader in the AI industry in the zone, has also helped with epidemic prevention and control efforts through tech products developed by Hu's team.
