Hefei PreceDo Pharmaceuticals and the Hefei Institute of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently launched a high-throughput cell detection system for the novel coronavirus 3C protease.

As the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic is raging around the world, the development of new drugs is becoming an increasingly urgent task. Although some traditional medicine has been used to treat patients, there is still a long way to go in finding a treatment that is truly effective.

Using the principle of protein renaturation, the newly-launched system can rapidly screen and accurately evaluate thousands of drugs within 48 hours, which means it can help improve the success rate of drug development in response to the virus, reducing the screening cycle and development costs.

The system was developed through cell engineering and related molecular biology technologies and based on the luciferase reporting system.

To help accelerate the global COVID-19 drug R&D process, the system is now ready for use, and the developer of the system is open to cooperating with COVID-19 drug R&D teams.
