Saleem Karmoshi, a Yemeni citizen who came to study in China 15 years ago, said he feels at home in the country. Karmoshi established Native Translation Services Co Ltd in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone in 2015.
"I like Hefei – it has a good environment for technology development in which I can learn and grow," he said. His company, which employs both Chinese and foreign students, has been offering quality professional services to make international communication easier.
His Chinese was far from fluent when he first came to China, and would struggle with writing papers in the language. Now, he can easily hold his own in an interview, and can even understand the Hefei dialect.
Combining his language skills with what he has learned as a computer major, Karmoshi decided to establish a translation company.
In the beginning, there was no difference between his company and other translation companies. Then, Karmoshi decided to begin employing college students who are native speakers in the target languages, giving him an edge over the competition.
"It is a win-win," said Karmoshi, "overseas students studying in China might be short on money; this gives them a chance to show off their skills and gives customers more nuanced translations."
"In the context of reform and opening up, China and the rest of the world are becoming closer and closer, leading to the need for more professional, efficient and personalized translations. Nowadays, translators are not just foreign students coming to China from abroad, but also foreigners from all over the country and people from different professions. They need a fast, accurate and reliable communication platform."
Karmoshi wasted no time launching an online translation platform.
The company continues to improve with the times. It has improved translation software with new technologies such as big data and increased translation efficiency by allowing translators and customers to communicate directly online.
