Hefei in East China's Anhui province was included in a list of top 10 national innovative cities in 2019, according to a report released by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China on Dec 29, 2019.
The report analyzed 72 cities across China based on 45 specific indicators, specifically focusing on innovative infrastructure, technological and educational resources, industrial and innovative capability, entrepreneurship, innovation, and green development.
To date, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission has helped 78 cities around the country to become national innovative cities.
"Seventy-eight innovative cities have more than 85 percent of the country's effective invention patents and cultivate over 80 percent of the high-tech enterprises in China, which play a critical role in building China into an innovative country," said Zhao Zhiyun, the Party Secretary of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China.
Hefei is striving to build the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center, and the core area of the center – Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone – has been named a National Innovation Demonstration Zone.
