Foreign teachers at the Sino-Canada Concord School of the Hefei High Tech Zone, an international school in the Hefei National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, said they are "safe and sound" in Hefei.
According to the school, foreign teachers understand and are cooperating with epidemic prevention and control efforts in the fight against the virus.
Debra Vuuren, one such foreign teacher, and her family from the United Kingdom have been living in Hefei for three years. She said they try to avoid going outside as much as possible at the school's request.
"We are comfortable at home with everything delivered to us, so it is not all bad," Vuuren said. "We cooperate with the school and have our temperatures taken every day and are still being very cautious and looking after ourselves."
"We feel very safe and protected here," Vuuren said, "and I believe the epidemic will come to an end sooner or later!"
Jacques Elliott has been working to prepare for online teaching ever since he received the news that the school had postponed the opening date for the new semester and teachers need to provide online courses for students at home.
Elliott came to China in 2016 from South Africa, and this is his fourth year working at the international school.
"China really is like a superhero the way everyone here is fighting against this evil-doer named Covid-19," Elliott said. He has chosen to stay in China, saying that he believed the Chinese people would win the battle against the virus soon.
Administrative staff at the school are keeping foreign teachers up to date with epidemic prevention and control notices and requirements and providing them with timely assistance, including purchasing and distributing supplies for them and helping them with online shopping.
In addition, security guards at the school have strengthened exit-entry management in light of the outbreak and are now examining and recording people's health conditions at the entrance. Cleaning staff are also regularly disinfecting public areas at the school every day.
