Temperature checking devices using artificial intelligence (AI) technology were recently put into use in Hefei, East China's Anhui province.
The AI-powered device feature cameras capable of picking out people running a fever from among large crowds within one second and within a distance of eight meters.
Combined with facial recognition algorithms and a thermal imaging temperature measurement system, inspection personnel need only to glance at the thermal image on the computer screen to complete temperature checks.
The device was developed by the high-tech company Tsing Link in the Hefei National High-tech Industrial Development Zone.
Wang Xiaomin, chief engineer of the company, said the product will meet the epidemic prevention needs of public areas with large population flow, such as government service centers, banks and hospitals.
It will automatically alert inspection personnel if it detects anyone with a fever or who is not wearing their face mask correctly.
Wang said the devices have been installed at the public security bureau building, innovation industrial park and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China in the Hefei National High-tech Industrial Development Zone.
