Chinese US-listed technology company Huami announced that it raised 10 million yuan ($1.43 million) to buy medical supplies from home and abroad in response to the outbreak of novel coronavirus in China.

The company has donated medical masks, protective clothing, goggles and sanitizing gel bought from countries such as Japan, South Korea and Thailand. They have been sent to 72 hospitals and government agencies in Hubei province and in Hefei.

According to the company, more medical supplies will be delivered to frontline hospitals after customs clearance.

Huami CEO Huang Wang said the management canceled the company’s annual party this year to save money for easing the shortage of medical supplies in China caused by the spread of the coronavirus epidemic.

A special group of employees was also formed at the company to match the demands from hospitals with products through international channels.

They contacted hospitals in Wuhan and Hefei about their needs and asked global business partners for information about overseas supplies.
