A newly inaugurated academician workstation at Anhui Jiyuan Software Co will inject vitality into national grid construction with the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The establishment of the workstation is part of efforts to tackle technical difficulties in the construction and development of the national grid and train more innovative talents with AI and data-mining capabilities.

The workstation has 50 members divided into technical groups dealing with video image processing, the cooperative operation of drones and energy services.

Wan Tao, general manager of the company, said they are developing AI technology to identify defects in electrical networks for transmission security through the new workstation and an existing AI laboratory.

"Our company serves as a core innovation base for the application of AI image recognition in electricity systems as monitoring the whole grid network requires quick and accurate processing of images taken by drones."

Established in Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone in 2001, the company has developed many innovative products with increasing R&D capabilities and is striving to combine new technologies with traditional grid businesses.
