The Comprehensive National Science Center in Hefei, Anhui province, one of the only three establishments in China, yielded eye-catching results in 2018.

In the field of information science, the center has for the first time realized the entanglement of 18 light quanta. Research and development on shaping the future pattern of the internet is developing smoothly. Breakthroughs were also made in the computing of environmental perception information and the control of autonomous driving vehicles.

The energy field also made remarkable achievements with EAST, the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak fusion device, also known as artificial sun, working well at over the central electron temperature of 100 million Celsius degrees and paving the way for further physics research on the fusion reactor.

In regards to the health industry, the center set up the world's largest cancer kinase target based on high-throughput cell screening library, covering most of the current known and the development of tumor-related all kinase mutant cells. The new self-developed drug HYML-122, targeting patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), an often-lethal cancer caused by damage to the DNA of blood-forming stem cells in the bone marrow, has also entered clinical test stage.

Three cutting-edge meteorological instruments made a space tour with the launch of a science satellite, allowing China to have access to various first-hand statistics of global nitrogen dioxide and ozone concentration and laying a solid scientific foundation for global climate change research.

A top-tier device on the fusion engineering experimental reactor recently started construction at the center. A large variety of advanced light source and atmospheric environment detection devices are also currently being prepared, scheduled to be put into operation in 2020.

Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone is the core area of the center.
