Anhui Research Institute of Industrial Technology Innovation was founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the People's Government of Anhui province in June 2006.

The institute is oriented to the sustainable development of the regional economy, and is based on original and integrated technology innovation as well as specialized disciplines. 

It aims to develop new industrial technologies with application prospects. It also attracts outstanding domestic and overseas talents, establishes top training centers for technology innovation talents, explores market-oriented research mechanisms, and builds top-class innovation platforms of applied technology.

The Hefei branch of CAS decided to adjust its internal research layout and concentrate the existing research advantages of applied technology. Therefore, the Institute of Applied Technology in Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, CAS, was founded at the end of 2014, to tackle hard-nut problems of applied technology and challenges of economic development. 

Currently, the Institute of Applied Technology has established a developing center mainly for advanced materials technology and engineering research, an intelligent vehicle technology research center, a optoelectronic application technology research center, a photoelectric measurement and control technology and instrument research center, a research center for Internet of Things engineering technology and new energy materials technology as well as an engineering research center.

The Institute of Applied Technology shares office space with the Anhui Circular Economy Technology and Engineering Institute that is jointly founded by the provincial government and CAS.

The infrastructure, management, and experience in engineering development and practical application of technology research of the Anhui Circular Economy Technology and Engineering Institute, and its human resources, will benefit the Anhui Research Institute of Applied Technology in engineering development and application of technology research achievements. 

The Anhui Research Institute of Applied Technology will enhance local economic development and contribute to the province’s innovation-driven development strategy.
