Guochuang Software Company, founded by an alumnus from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), specializes in software product research and development, and provides leading IT solutions and related system integration, consultation and technical services. 

The company in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone, East China’s Anhui province has developed itself into a leading industry application software and big data application service provider in 16 years.

Dong Yongdong, the chairman of Guochuang, finished his study of computer science at USTC in 1995 and started his career in the software industry the following year. He joined Guochuang’s predecessor company in 2000 and soon became the general manager. 

Guochuang has the USTC “gene” -- whether managers or shareholders all the company’s members have an educational background with USTC. Talking about the university’s influence on him, Dong said that the spirit of USTC was to have a down-to-earth and innovative learning attitude, and USTC has a stronger study atmosphere compared with other universities. Its students have shown the courage to be No. 1 in national science and technology competitions.

Dong and his classmates left the university and engaged in a wave of entrepreneurship in 1995. “We explored the path of entrepreneurship for a long time and always worked overtime during that period, and we worked under great pressure when facing our clients’ criticism,” said Dong.

He kept learning and understanding telecommunication services, and then selected the network management of Anhui province’s telecommunications as his starting point of entrepreneurship. With his knowledge and the technology of that time, he collected all the data through data interface via switch, and then monitored and managed the network. 

Dong carried out market research when he didn’t know how to expand the company’s business, learnt from the industry’s experts and visited various power plants with his customers.

Now the company’s most precious treasure is its talent resource. Guochuang has cultivated a group of people who know about both business and technology. That’s important because technology updates very fast today. For example, the integration of 3G and 4G hasn’t been completed, yet 5G is coming out soon.

Guochuang has strong backing in talent resources from USTC. “There should be someone engaging in continuous research and development, to make sure the company keeps up with the pace of the intelligent era,” said Dong. “No talents means no projects to carry out and no service for our clients”.
