King Charles III of the United Kingdom unveiled his new custom Lotus Eletre on Jan 25, a luxury electric SUV assembled at the Lotus factory in the UK.
Yu Rong, deputy general manager of the Lotus global intelligent factory in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), said that the vehicle's power battery is supplied by CATL, and the electric control system is independently developed.
Yu added that the car's body combines an all-aluminum structure with high-strength steel materials, all produced in China. Lotus technicians traveled to the UK to ensure seamless assembly and testing.
The 160,000-pound ($220,902) car was featured in a video by Lotus Cars, in which King Charles expressed his satisfaction with its quiet operation and smooth performance.
The Wuhan factory is the world's first to be fully designed and constructed using 3D digital twin technology. The 5G-enabled facility features highly flexible production lines that can quickly switch between different models, enabling high-end personalized customization.
The factory also produces the Emeya luxury sports sedan. Lotus products are now available in over 40 countries and regions, with more than 200 global stores, covering markets in China, Europe, and the Middle East.
Yu also noted that Lotus plans to launch a new PHEV hybrid SUV model called "For Me", targeting markets in China, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
