The Zhuge Town Phase I of the Three Kingdoms Cultural Tourism Project in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) opened to the public on Jan 5.
This new attraction showcases elegant ancient architecture, with statues of Zhuge Liang (181-234), the renowned statesman and military strategist from the Three Kingdoms period (220-280), providing visitors with an immersive experience of this rich historical era.
The town is located next to the Zhuge City ruins, covering an expansive area of over 5,000 square meters, with a cultural layer approximately 1 to 2 meters thick, revealing numerous Neolithic stone and pottery fragments.
According to Li Jian, general manager of Wuhan Zhuge Town Management Co, the Zhuge Town project spans 1,190 mu (79.33 hectares) and will be developed in phases. The design concept is centered around key milestones from Zhuge Liang's life, featuring a central landscape sculpture belt and a complex of ancient-style buildings.
Phase I, the project's initiation zone, has already seen the completion of Zhuge statues and various facilities, including a team-building and party center and a banquet center. These attractions will be freely accessible to the public from today until Jan 5, 2026.
The facility also offers over 20 varieties of vegetables and fruits for visitors to pick from.
Li also revealed plans for the second and third phases, set to launch in the second quarter of this year. These phases will include the development of a waterfront commercial street, a visitor center, and a resort hotel and are expected to be operating at full capacity by 2026.
Centered on the Zhuge City ruins, the project connects historical and cultural relics from the Three Kingdoms, such as Dajun Mountain, Xiaojun Mountain, Shefa Mountain, and Kongming Lake, linking them like pearls throughout the zone.
This initiative is part of WEDZ's efforts to revitalize its history and culture and promote cultural tourism, bringing the storied history of the Three Kingdoms to life.
