A plane carrying 270 passengers took off from Tianhe International Airport in Wuhan, Hubei province, and headed for London's Heathrow Airport on Aug 25, marking the official resumption of the Wuhan-London direct intercontinental route operated by China Southern Airlines.

It was the first flight to Europe from Wuhan since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is expected to contribute to the recovery of economic and trade cooperation, cultural and personnel exchanges between the central region of China and the United Kingdom and further deepen ties between Wuhan and London in fields such as education and tourism.

The route is flown by an Airbus A350 aircraft once a week on Fridays.

Before the pandemic, China Southern operated the most international routes from Wuhan. Since the beginning of this year, it has gradually resumed some international and regional routes, including flights to Dubai. It plans to gradually resume or open more international and regional routes based on market demand, according to the company.
