Wuhan airport sees surging passenger numbers in 2019

Updated: 2020-01-17

Wuhan Tianhe International Airport served 27.15 million passengers in 2019, recording a year-on-year growth of 10.8 percent, according to a report in the Hubei Daily.

Local airport officials said the growth rate ranked first among 21 large airports across the country.

In terms of the number of flights, last year the total in the summer and winter seasons increased by 12.9 percent and 6.25 percent on the previous year, respectively.

That performance was higher than the average increase of three percent in large airports nationwide. A total of 9,734 flights were added at the airport throughout the year.

The airport has made progress in increasing flight punctuality. An Operation Coordination Management Committee was launched.

With the regulation and management of flights conducted under the industry standard Airport Collaborative Decision Making system, the possibilities of flight delays have been reduced.

In 2019, the airport newly opened international routes linking with international cities including Istanbul, New York, Rangoon and Mandalay -- taking the number of the airport’s international air routes to 63.

The airport served 3.106 million international passengers throughout the year, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent, maintaining its top ranking in Central China for the seventh consecutive year.
