Wuhan, capital city of central Hubei province, has been ranked 10th for its business environment among Chinese cities, according to a Jan 7 report in the Changjiang Daily.

Local officials said the city ranked first among cities in central and western China.

They said Wuhan performed admirably when tested on the seven things a company has to do before going into operation – register itself as a business, obtain a building permit, registering property, obtaining credit and obtaining electricity, water and gas.

The city has been making a concerted effort in shortening the time for those requirements, officials said.

In terms of starting an enterprise, only two working days are now needed in Wuhan.

The length of time for a building permit application has been reduced from 20 to 79 working days to 19 to 41 working days.

A staff member of PowerChina Construction Group said he successfully applied for a Nighttime Construction Permit on an online government service platform.

When registering property, a personal mortgage registration can be completed within two working days, and for companies it now takes three working days.

The average time to get credit for small and micro businesses is 10.14 days, officials said.

While in Wuhan city, Hubei Limeng Architectural Design Office Co completed opening an account and a loan application within two working days.

A tax loan of 1 million yuan ($144,000) was issued in one hour.
