A grand 100-meter paper-cutting scroll, created by teachers and students at Xuefeng Primary School – to celebrate an upcoming international military games to be held in the Wuhan city -- was unveiled to the public at Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone on Oct 12.
The 7th Military World Games will be held in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, on October 18-27. Already, a series of cultural performances have been held in the city to welcome the event.
The scroll includes 100 paper-cutting and calligraphy works featuring landmarks in Wuhan and other countries – among them the Colosseum in Italy, the Eiffel Tower in France, the Taj Mahal in India and the Sydney Opera House in Australia.
“The theme of each work is unique and a variety of skills have been used during the production,” said Huang Mingwei, a paper-cutting teacher of the school, who spent two months to mount the scroll.
The scroll also celebrates aspects of the military games, which is generating widespread anticipation and excitement in Wuhan.
“The scroll not only reflects elements about the Military World Games, but also showcases the profound culture in Wuhan,” Huang added.
Teaching paper-cutting is a tradition at Xuefeng Primary School. It provides paper-cutting training to teachers and students at all grades.
Han Fang, the school’s headmaster, said that it was meaningful that the school gave full play to its talents in promoting traditional Chinese culture to the world.
