In 2023, five places in Southwest China's Guizhou province, including the cities of Guiyang and Qingzhen, Meitan county, Libo county, and Maotai baijiu geographical indication protection demonstration area of the Chishui River Basin won national honors for ecological civilization construction.
Guiyang, Qingzhen, and Libo were recognized as national ecological civilization construction demonstration areas, while Meitan and the Maotai baijiu geographical indication protection demonstration area of the Chishui River Basin were designated as national "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" practice and innovation bases.
Guiyang became the third provincial capital in the country to become a national ecological civilization construction demonstration zone.
Since Guizhou embarked on ecological civilization demonstration construction in 2017, a total of 19 regions have won 21 national-level ecological civilization demonstration honors.
Guizhou has coordinated efforts to reduce carbon emissions, reduce pollution, expand green spaces, and promote economic growth. It has taken efforts in the prevention and control of atmosphere, water, soil, and solid waste pollution as well as environmental risk control.
It has also pushed forward seven special actions in the environmental management of the baijiu industry, phosphorus and manganese pollution, domestic sewage, municipal waste, hazardous waste, and industrial parks.
