Guian New Area

Guian New Area is a state-level new area approved by the State Council on Jan 6, 2014. Located between Guiyang and Anshun, Guizhou province, its planned area is 1,795 sq km. Guian New Area plays a strategic role in building an economic growth pole in western China, an inland highland of open economy, and a demonstration area of ecological civilization. In 2015, it was listed in the second group of national new urbanization comprehensive pilot areas, and in 2016 was among the first regional demonstration bases designated by the State Council.

Guian New Area has attracted well-known enterprises from home and abroad like Qualcomm, Foxconn, Microsoft and Chinese three major telecommunications operators.

Industrial development

Big data industry

A 32-sq-km electronic information industry park was built to cultivate a new generation of information technology and develop the electronic information manufacturing industry. So far, projects like the first stage of Foxconn fourth-generation industrial park, a Sterlin energy equipment manufacturing base, and the data center of Chinese three major telecommunications operators have settled here, bringing a total investment of 40 billion yuan.

High-end equipment manufacturing industry

A 22-sq-km high-end equipment manufacturing industrial park is planned. The production base of environmental protection equipment has entered the new area. With the launch of projects like Robot and the Aurora Industrial Park Project, the first stage of a 200,000-sq-m standard factory has been completed.

Biopharmaceutical industry

The new biopharmaceutical industrial park has a planned area of 9.8 sq km. It relies on the resource advantages of Chinese herbal medicine in Guian New Area to develop modern biomedicine. The park focuses on the manufacturing of chemical pharmaceuticals, Chinese herbal medicine, biological medicine, Chinese patent medicine and medical instruments.

Healthcare industry

Relying on the rich ecological, cultural and natural resources in the new area, the healthcare industry focuses on ecological culture tourism, ecological real estate and green food.

E-commerce industry

A planned e-commerce eco-city will cover an area of 20 hectares, with a building area of 280,000 sq m. Advanced e-commerce service agencies introduced from Hangzhou, and gathered enterprises of warehousing, logistics, platforms, financing, marketing, technology and packaging, accompanied with entertainment and other supporting facilities, will be built into a complete circle of e-commerce industry with a hundred billion yuan potential.

Settlement of Apple

On July 12, 2017, Apple signed a strategic cooperative frame agreement with the Guizhou government to build its first data center in China. According to the agreement, the data center will be placed in Guian New Area, along with a $1 billion investment.

Layout

Three core integrated functional areas, a characteristic function leading area and cultural ecological protection area, along with eight industrial parks and a comprehensive bonded zone are to be built into a modern industrial cluster.

Human geography

Guian New Area has quite a long history which includes the original ecological Tunpu culture. With famous scenic spots such as Hongfeng Lake, Baihua Lake and Tianhe Lake, Guian New Area has a 42 percent forest coverage and is rich in high-end cultural and leisure tourism resources.
