Guizhou province in Southwest China has been building a modern vocational education system that is well-aligned with its industrial structure.
In addition to conducting student internships, faculty exchanges, training base construction, technological innovation, and social services between schools and enterprises, the cooperative establishment of modern industry colleges has become an important measure for Guizhou to deepen the integration of industry and education.
The province has supported and regulated the establishment of vocational education and training by social forces, and encouraged the development of joint-stock and mixed-ownership vocational colleges and various types of vocational training institutions.
As of March 2023, Guizhou has built 28 industry colleges and approved the establishment of three provincial-level industry colleges. Relying on these modern industry colleges, a number of demonstration entities integrating talent cultivation, scientific research, technological innovation, enterprise services, and student entrepreneurship are being continuously developed.
As big data is a calling card of the province, colleges in Guizhou have been dedicated to cultivating innovative talents in big data technology and application, and serving the development of Guizhou's digital economy.
In 2020, Guizhou Light Industry Technical College and Chinasoft International Education and Technology Group jointly established the Chinasoft International Big Data Industry College. The two sides have cooperated on training students in three majors – big data technology and applications, internet of things application technology, and cloud computing technology and its application.
The group's lecturers and academic management teams have been settled in Guizhou Light Industry Technical College for a long time, undertaking 40 percent or more of the implementation of professional courses and project practice courses.
Earlier on May 28, the Guiyang Guian Big Data Industry-University Alliance was jointly established by the Guian New Area Management Committee, Guizhou College of Electronic Science and Technology, and Guizhou Big Data Group. It consists of four government departments, 23 schools, 17 enterprises, four scientific research institutions, and two academic societies.
As the first municipal industry-university alliance in Guizhou, it will innovate in talent cultivation models; establish efficient cooperation mechanisms between government, schools, enterprises, and associations; empower the economic development of Guiyang and Guian; and provide new benchmarks and experience for the construction of a modern vocational education system in the whole province.
