Rich energy and mineral resources

The bauxite reserves in Guizhou amount to 5.9 million tons, ranking fourth in the whole country. Phosphorus ore reserves in Guizhou amount to 3.29 billion tons, ranking third in the whole country. The manganese ore reserves in Guizhou amount to 9.8 million tons, ranking third in the whole country. The antimony ore reserves in Guizhou amount to 273,300 tons, ranking fourth in the whole country. The gold ore reserves in Guizhou amount to 213.31 tons, ranking fifth. The barite reserves in Guizhou amount to 12.6 million tons, ranking first. The reserves of thin native ores in Guizhou amount to 1.5 million tons, ranking second.

Its potential hydropower reserves amount to 16.83 million kilowatts. Its coal reserves amount to 47.4 billion tons. It is known as the coal city in the south region of the Yangtze River. The unit cost of hydropower and thermal power in China has led Guizhou to become an important base for the national West-East electricity transmission project.

A total of 127 kinds of minerals have been found in the province, including 28 kinds with great reserves ranking in the national top five. It is worthy mentioning that those minerals have an very prominent superiority in the resources, such as aluminum, phosphorus, manganese, antimony, gold, barite and so on.

Biological resources

It is a major source region of animal and plant resources and one of China's four major regions for the production of traditional Chinese herbs. Guizhou is home to 6,000 species of wild plants, more than 500 species of which are edible; about 600 of which can be used in industry; 240 of which can be applied to afforestation, beautification and anti-pollution; and about 3,924 of which can be classified as medical plants. In a word, this province has excellent agriculture for the development of organic foods and biological drugs.
