On Jan 6, Professor Feng Yucai, chairman and founder of Wuhan Dameng Database Co based in the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC), was granted the 2024 CCF Highest Science and Technology Award announced by the China Computer Federation (CCF) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of China's computer science field.

The CCF Highest Science and Technology Award is organized by CCF and is awarded to senior Chinese computer scientists who have achieved significant breakthroughs and made substantial contributions to computer science, technology, and engineering. The award follows a nomination process and is presented annually, with no more than two recipients each year.

According to the organizing committee, Feng is a renowned database scientist in China who has long been dedicated to the research and industrialization of indigenous database technologies. He established Dameng Database, China's first publicly listed database company, and developed the Dameng series of databases, significantly advancing the nation's foundational software industry.

Feng was formerly a professor and doctoral advisor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, where he focused on database technology and product research. In 1982, he formed a database technology and product development research group. At the age of 56, Feng founded Dameng Database, taking the first step towards commercialization in OVC.

"My entire life has been devoted to one thing: developing databases. There is no end to pursuing the dream of developing domestic databases. I will lead the Dameng team to keep pushing forward," stated Feng.
