OVC innovator included in 'TR 35' list
Liu Yang, a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and a researcher in the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), was included in the list of "Innovators under 35, China 2023" (TR 35, China 2023) which was unveiled by MIT Technology Review on July 11.
This year's honorees include young professors from Tsinghua University and New York University as well as individuals from technology companies. The organizers noted that these young innovators have not only achieved fruitful research results but also excelled in technology application, social responsibility, industry-academia-research integration, and sustainable development.

Professor Liu and his team developed the world's first high-power photonic integrated circuit Er-Doped Waveguide Amplifier (EDWA), achieving a record output power of over 145 milliwatts. This breakthrough provides a crucial foundation for the development of low-noise laser chips, miniaturized photonic radars, and quantum applications.
This technology has the potential to be applied in various fields such as telecommunications, data centers, miniaturized laser light sources and quantum computing. Currently, many renowned international companies are eager to integrate the technology into their products.
Since 1999, MIT Technology Review has been annually selecting 35 pioneers under 35 in the tech field, forming the "Innovators Under 35" (TR35) list. In 2017, DeepTech collaborated with MIT Technology Review to officially bring TR35 selection to China.
