The Global Optical Fiber and Cable Conference 2023 of the 19th Optics Valley of China International Optoelectronic Exposition and Forum (OVC Expo 2023) was held in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone, dubbed the Optics Valley of China (OVC), in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on May 17, coinciding with World Telecommunication Day.

Research institutes, top academicians, experts and industry leaders from the telecommunication field, as well as senior executives of promising enterprises from more than 30 countries gathered for the event.

The 5.17 World Telecommunication Day Joint Initiative was put forward, calling to intensify cooperation and exchanges within the global optical fiber and cable industrial community, to further empower the development of a digital society and benefit all people.

The initiative called for efforts to adhere to an innovation-driven strategy, develop frontier optical communication sciences, technologies and relevant applications, combine standards with technological innovation, react to the dual carbon goals, form sustainable production and supply chains, enhance international collaborations, and proactively integrate into the global information technology innovation network.
