5 Wuhan companies, research institutions receive national standards awards

Five companies and research institutions based in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, have won China Standards Innovation and Contribution Awards.
FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies Co, one of the five winners, is based in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC). The international standards it formulated jointly with China Mobile, Huawei, ZTE and other companies won the first-place prize. The standards have significantly increased the international market share of the optical transmission products made in China from 30 percent to 50 percent.
One national standard formulated partly by the Wuhan Branch of China Electric Power Research Institute Co won the second-place prize, while one international standard and two industrial standards formed by Wuhan University, Nuclear Power Institute of China, and Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences respectively won the third-place prize.
Founded in 2006, the China Standards Innovation and Contribution Awards reward projects, organizations and individuals having made huge contributions to the area of standards.
In total, more than 30 projects funded by companies in the valley have won the awards.
