The Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology on Feb 17 released the 2022 innovative industrial cluster list, which included the new-type electronic component and equipment manufacturing industrial cluster based in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), along with 45 other clusters from around the nation.

Innovative industrial clusters consist of enterprises, research institutes and service institutions in a specific field which develop together through coordinated innovation and cooperation.

The ministry urged that all such innovative industrial clusters should focus on cultivating leading sci-tech enterprises, strive to create a corporate innovation consortium, complete their own sci-tech innovation service systems, and promote the merging of talent, industrial and capital chains.

The optoelectronic information sector in OVC is developing more quickly than other sectors in the valley. The valley is home to the world's largest optical fiber and cable manufacturing base, the nation's biggest optoelectronic device and equipment manufacturing base, and China's largest medium and small-sized display panels, and boasts three national industrial clusters in IC, advanced display, and next-generation information network.

The valley currently is home to five provincial key labs and 28 State-level innovation platforms.
