Students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) recently participated in outdoor activity courses at Huxi River, which is located in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC).

Huxi River originates at Luoyu East Road and connects to Yujia Lake – a tributary of East Lake. It travels across the east campus of HUST and has a total length of 1.5 kilometers.

The lake used to be severely polluted. In 2018, a water governance project was implemented on the river, restoring the river's lucidness. With the water quality improved, it has become a popular scenic spot among locals.
