After several rounds of competitions and reviews, the concept plan for the No 5 High School of the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC) was released, according to a local news reports on March 10.
The plan was submitted by Central-South China Engineering Consulting and Design Group Co with the theme of "OVC's new buds to blossom", as when viewed from above, the school will be shaped like a new bud symbolizing hope and vitality.
The high school will be built to the north of Gaoxin Second Road and east of Taoli Road with a planned construction area of 100,000 square meters. The school will accommodate a total of 48 classes.
The most unique aspect of the school is its rolling and extended roof, which will form a spacious platform for all kinds of outdoor activities for children.
Three U-shaped parts of the bud will be built as teaching buildings for 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Meanwhile, lecture halls, a school history exhibition center, a library, labs, and office rooms for school faculty will be laid out, and canteens will be placed between the living and teaching areas.
The school's stadium will be a three-floor facility with two floors above-ground for ball games and other activities, and one floor underground for swimming.
